Sajjad Ashraf -
High Commissioner of Pakistan, Singapore
Mr.
Ashraf is serving High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore
since late July 2004.
Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1973 he has had
number of posting in Pakistan's missions abroad.
His
overseas postings include in addition to Singapore, Senegal with
concurrent accreditation to six other countries, Netherlands,
Dubai, South Korea, Australia, Mozambique and Kenya.
Mr.
Ashraf's posting have allowed him to work in broad range of
countries, both in bilateral and multi-lateral setting like
United Nations Environment Program. At The Hague he worked as
Pakistan Alternate Permanent Delegate to the Organization for
Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. He has represented Pakistan at
several international conferences.
Mr.
Ashraf has also been invited to deliver papers at Pugwash
Conferences and at Bandranaike Center in Colombo. He has spoken
at various seminars at Institute of South Asian Studies in
Singapore and earlier at the Australian National University,
Canberra. He has written several papers on variety of topics. His recent
publication is a much acclaimed article "From Guns to Muffled
Sounds of Dholak-An India-Pakistan Journey of Hope" written for
the Institute of South Asian Studies in Singapore.
During his posting in Africa he worked closely with what were
then liberation movements. While posted in Senegal he was
instrumental in arranging Pakistan's highly acclaimend peace
keeping operation in Sierra Leone, a country in his area of
accreditation.
Mr.
Sajjad Ashraf holds Masters in Political Science from Forman
Christian College, Lahore, where he was ranked at the top of his
class, and Masters Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies,
with high honors, from National Defence College , Islamabad. In
addition he has successfully completed Course in International
Relations and Diplomacy, management courses in Pakistan and
Leadership and Organizational Management Course from INTAN,
Kuala Lumpur.
He is married with a son who is an Investment Banker in London and daughter currently working with a law firm in Singapore.
He
enjoys reading, tennis, jogging, listening to the music and
watching movies.
