FM Qureshi urges Pakistani-Americans to help with flood relief
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has asked Pakistani-Americans to respond generously to massive flood relief demands in the face of widespread national disaster that has brought with it a spate of challenges for the nation.Speaking to a group of Pakistani-Americans, Qureshi said they can contribute to relief task in a variety of ways ranging from donating to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to coordinating supplies with private organizations.

Aid will not fall into extremists’ hands: Malik
Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Wednesday assured the international donors that aid for flood victims would not fall into extremists’ hands. He gave this assurance after the UN said it had received less than half of the dollar 460 million required for the relief effort. The shortfall has been blamed on fears over alleged corruption and the Taliban. Talking to an international news channel, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that the government would not let Taliban derive any benefit from donations.

President Zardari seeks int’l support for Pakistan flood relief, reconstruction challenges
President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday called for generous help and assistance of international community to overcome the challenges of relief and reconstruction, faced by Pakistan in the wake of devastating floods. “We are meeting in Sochi at a sobering and tragic moment. Our region is once again struck by unprecedented natural disasters,” he said with reference to the worst devastation ever caused by the floods in Pakistan.

PM calls upon world community to lend support to Pakistan’s efforts to meet challenge
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has called upon the International Community to lend support to Pakistan’s efforts in meeting the challenge arisen out of unprecedented torrential rains and floods.Pakistan’s foremost requirements to cope with relief efforts, he mentioned, are tents, food stuff, water purification plants, stoves and medicines to ward off any epidemic.Prime Minister was talking to Andrew Mitchell, British Secretary of State for International Development and Barroness Saeeda Warsi, Chairperson of the British Conservative Party who along with their delegation called on the Prime Minister on Wednesday.

President Zardari for greater regional cooperation to tackle challenges of security, development
President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday called for greater cooperation among regional countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Russia to effectively tackle the complex challenges of security and development, faced by the region.“Terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, organized crime, need to be seen in terms of their root causes. They thrive on ignorance, deprivation and poverty. Our countries need greater cooperation to effectively tackle them”, the President stressed while speaking at Second Quadrilateral Summit held here.He said the problem of security is deeply rooted in lack of development, adding, “it cannot be treated in isolation. Our meeting should therefore focus both on security and development.”

Mrs. Fauzia Mazhar Sana was born on April 04, 1953. She holds a Master’s degree in Journalism. She joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1978.

She has held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan Missions abroad including in New Delhi from 1982 – 1986 and again in 1993 – 1994 and Brussels 1989 – 1993. She served as Counselor (Political) in Beijing from 1994 – 1998 and Deputy Head of Mission in Tehran from 2000 – 2004. She was Pakistan’s Ambassador to Portugal from June 2005 – April 2009. She assumed charge as High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore in May 2009.

In Islamabad, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs she served in various capacities in the South Asia division also as Director for China, Japan and South Korea, and Director General, South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation.

Among the major training courses attended by Mrs. Sana are the Mid Career Course for Diplomats in 2000, Policy and Management Course at the Staff College of Pakistan in 2005 as well as diplomacy courses at the Quaid – e – Azam University, Islamabad and Common - Wealth Foundation, London.

Her experience includes participation in numerous international and regional meetings including SAARC Summits in 1985 and 2005. She chaired the SAARC Programming Committee in Dhaka in 2003, attended the 5th International Conference on Women in Beijing 1995, ILO Ministerial Meeting in Lisbon in 2006 as well as D – 8 and ECO meetings.

Her major interests are literature, classical music, silk and tile painting.

She is married and has two children.
